Vigilant
Voter is the Asset of Democracy
Post
freedom, India witnessed a substantial devaluation of democratic systems and
the key reason why it happened so is the ‘non-alert’ voter. Many voters in the country succumb to a
bottle of sharab, money and other such allurements offered to them by
corrupt candidates. Unfortunately, caste and creed too are proving to be influential
factors rather than merit of a good candidate. Apart from this, political
unawareness is also a reason why good people are not elected in Loksabha and
other legislative houses. As a result, corrupt, hooligan, character-less people
too are getting elected to our holy temples of democracy. Such people can never
work for common people’s welfare. It is unfortunate that even after long 65
years of freedom; we the Indians have not recognized the importance of our own
vote. One vote of an Indian can change the entire country, let us remember this
always.
“Corruption
free India” is possible only when every Indian decides not to vote for corrupts
and says ‘no’ to corruption while going to election booth for voting. Every
Indian must pledge that ‘I will not corrupt myself and shall not allow others
to adopt corrupt practices during elections and voting’. Unless and until voters decide for a clean
voting process, stop taking bribes for casting votes, we cannot expect the
India to be free from corruption.
It
is therefore necessary to undertake voter’s awakening program in villages,
towns, cities and metros of India. People will have to vow that they will not
cast their votes in consideration of party, bribes, caste and creed and they
will elect only those candidates having clean and good character. In order to
take this Voter’s Awareness Campaign further, we need thousands of youth
volunteers having a social concern and affection towards the motherland. The
country looks forward for such a massive campaign now.
Unless
the country elects clean and ethically sound people, the parliament will not be
forced to make anti corruption laws such as Jan-Lokpal, Right to Reject, Right
to Recall, Right to Service, Citizens’ Charter etc. The other laws that force governments
to take fast, bribe-free and justified decisions in the matters concerning to a
common man, must be in place. In addition, strengthening of gram-sabhas
and ward sabhas, De-centralization and ‘power to people’ are key issues
for our democracy. In case the parliament makes such people friendly provisions
through enactment, the corruption will be substantially reduced thereby
ensuring justice to a common man. It is therefore essential that people elect
good people as their representatives.
Besides
corruption, we will have to look into farmer’s issues seriously as the farmer’s
financial situation is getting critical day by day. It is unfortunate that in
our ‘agriculture dominated’ country, lacs of farmers have opted to suicide as
they were never assured of their livelihood; which is a major system failure. Apart
from their weak financial condition, the governments across the country are
stealing their lands from them in the name of “development” which in fact is
boon only to selfish politicians, corrupt officers and the ultra-corrupt corporate
sector of this country. Poor farmers are cheated, their lands are acquired at a
throw away price without any fair rehabilitation and if they refuse to give
their lands, the governments across the country use muscle power to thrash them
out merely for the benefit of these selfish politicians, corrupt babus and
ultra corrupt corporate sector. In addition to this nexus, multi-national
companies are also looting the land, water and other natural resources
utilizing this corrupt machinery. For the greedy corporate sector and multinational
companies, our own governments are beating farmers with lathis and also
firing bullets when they protest against it.
Many
recent incidents prove that this government is not less than the brutal British
rulers who governed this country then. Privatization of land, forests and water
in the interest of corporate and multinationals is a direct threat to sovereignty
of our country. If people’s representatives and bureaucrats are public servants
and people are owners of country, then they have no right to mismanage (the
public assets and natural resources belonging to the people) for their own
greed. Government must consult and consider people before taking any decision
with reference to the natural and public resources.
The
government which cannot protect the interest of small and poor farmers has no
moral right to continue in the power. The government which cannot protect the
soul of constitution has no legitimate right to continue in the power. It is
now necessary to dissolve this current parliament and seek a fresh mandate of
people of this country. People have lost their faith in political parties as almost
all parties are rolling around power and money while having a least concern
towards people. Political parties are misusing the law and many times making
laws in their own common interests. For example, the donations offered to a
political party to the extent of Rs. 20,000 are exempted deliberately from
mentioning the name of the donor; whereby crores of rupees (black money) afforded
by corporate are divided in bogus names to the limit of 20,000 and parties
enjoy this money. This is misuse of power for turning black money white. The
government must cease all such accounts of political parties but it will never
do so because ruling party and opposition parties are mutual beneficiaries. How
come these political parties will have interest in eliminating corruption?
It
is therefore necessary for people to vote for good and clean candidates without
considering party lines and their unholy offerings. This country will change
only if we elect good representatives to our parliament. We will have to get
together and form a nationwide apolitical organization to initiate a nationwide
movement. We will have to build a public pressure which will govern the governments;
whichever party may rule. All parties have only one crucial fear- ‘fear of
losing the power’!
Let
us rise and get organized. Let us build a nationwide organization. Let our
youth go to the nation and awake it. My train-tour of country starts in the
month of January. Let us unite and struggle as soldiers in the second war of
independence. The people who wish to
participate in the movement may contact on following addresses.
